Every foreign student must have a valid passport. All international students must submit a copy of their passport to the Admission office.
If you have been issued a resident alien registration number (permanent residency or green card) since sending in your application, we will need to have a copy of the green card sent to our office to change your status. If you have applied for permanent residency status but have not yet received your green card, you will need to send in a copy of your permanent residency application.
All foreign students come to the United States under regulations which are supervised by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
In order to receive a visa to enter the U.S., most students will require the Form I-20. Unless the student is from a country not subject to visa restrictions, this Form must be taken by the student to a U.S. Consulate Office in order that a rubber-stamped entry visa may be entered on the student's passport.
Upon arrival at a port of entry to the U.S., the student presents the passport and Form I-20 and will receive the Arrival/Departure Record (Form I-94). Permission to stay in the U.S. will be for the duration of the student's status as a bona fide non-immigrant student.
In order for us to issue the Form I-20, you must provide financial certification. As an international student, you are required to certify that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses while attending Emory University. You will need to complete and return the Financial Certification Form and Statement of Finances. The Statement of Finances is a note or statement from your bank or financial institution as proof of sufficient funding.
Please note that there are no state, federal, or institutional financial aid resources for international undergraduate students. Therefore, you must show on the Financial Certification Form that you have funds available. You only have to verify funding for the first year.
If you already have a visa from another institution in the U.S., you will need to complete and submit the Visa Transfer Form in addition to the Financial Certification Form and Statement of Finances. We also require a copy of your current visa.
With the exception of the Statement of Finances, all documents may be mailed, faxed, or scanned and emailed to Oxford College. The Statement of Finances must be an original that is mailed.
Form I-20 will not be issued by Emory University until the student has deposited in a program of study and has submitted all required documents.
