


Oxford College Athletic Director Brandon Feldman has announced the appointment of Samantha Bird as Interim Women's Head Soccer Coach. Bird will begin her duties immediately.
Bird was an assistant coach at Oxford for the 2008 season, in which, the team finished with an impressive 14 and 5 record, and a fifth place ranking by the National Soccer Association of America and sixth place ranking by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
As a player, Bird was a scholarship recipient in 2004 and 2005 at Columbus State University, in which, the team won the Peach Belt Conference in 2005. She joined the coaching staff at Columbus State University, after the 2005 season, due to injuries and coached there through Spring 2008. The team won the Peach Belt Conference championship from 2005-2007 and tournament championship in 2006 and 2007. The team in 2007 finished ranked 7th in the nation and made it to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament Elite Eight.
Bird has also coached for the Georgia Olympic Development Program and began coaching at the club and youth levels in high school, coaching at the Bluesprings Youth Soccer Association and Columbus Futbol Club/ Columbus Youth Soccer Association.
Coach Bird is a recipient of the Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund Scholarship and the Chris Nedelcoyych Soccer Foundation Scholarship for soccer education.
She obtained her USSF A License this summer, becoming one of the youngest females to receive that honor. She currently lives in Loganville, GA and is getting married in December.
