Locating Background Resources

Search online in DiscoverE or in our Print Reference Collection (located on the 1st floor of the library) to begin your search. Get a start on your research question, look for related search terms, and find more resources in the bibliographies of reference articles to help further your research.

  • Browse the bookstacks in the 200's for books on religion.
  • Recommended General Search Strategy
    Brainstorming synonyms or variations on words yields a more productive search. 
    For example, if you are searching for information on women's dress and Islam, you might also want to look for:

    • Women AND Islam
    • clothing AND Islam  

    Adjust your searches by narrowing the focus, ex: purdah

    OR

    combining terms, ex: Islam AND purdah
