Students experience Cuba as pandemic changes everything


Fourteen Oxford College students had the chance to visit Cuba in early March before the island nation reported cases and closed its borders.

The first weeks of March 2020 were tense in Georgia as the COVID-19 pandemic impact became clearer. Bridgette Gunnels, assistant professor of Spanish, left Atlanta on March 7 with an Oxford student group headed to Havana. They planned to complete the week-long travel component of the Spanish course “Evolution of Revolution.”
