Humanities at Oxford College
At Oxford College, humanities education isn't simply about great books and lofty concepts—it challenges you to ask better questions, apply theories to life outside the classroom, and originate ideas. Through our innovative PATHS program, you'll connect classroom learning directly to real-world impact while working closely with faculty mentors who know your name and your goals.
In our close-knit learning community of just 1,000 students, you'll engage in faculty-mentored research, contribute to community and arts initiatives, and build skills in communication, creativity, and analysis that will distinguish you when you continue to Emory's Atlanta campus and beyond.

Faculty SpotlightsConnect with our humanities faculty during their office hours, attend a club event, or register for any of our humanities courses! Your humanities journey begins with a conversation. Sure, Oxford faculty write books and win prizes. But what they like to do most—and what they do best—is teach. Oxford faculty are nationally recognized for their commitment to teaching, and they lead faculty at other institutions in exploring best practices in college classrooms. Before transitioning to the bright lights of Atlanta, many Oxford students find their footing in the small, sun-drenched studio in Williams Hall. For the last ten years, Alejandro Abarca, Assistant Teaching Professor of Dance, has been at the center of students' journey, serving as a mentor who has proven that at Oxford, movement is a vital part of the liberal arts education. For Stacy Bell McQuaide 89Ox, Teaching Professor of English at Oxford College of Emory University, Oxford isn’t just where she teaches—it’s where her journey as a scholar and servant leader began. A proud alumna and longtime faculty member, Bell describes her two years as an Oxford student as “intellectually transformative.” Anouar El Younssi doesn’t just teach classes—he builds bridges. As an associate professor of Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies, he immerses his students not only in the words and melodies of the Arabic language but also in the cultures, customs, histories, and cuisines of the Middle East and North Africa. He is passionate about setting his students on a path to global citizenship. |
